The climb from Matrei am Brenner to Maria Waldrast is a classic, steep climb: a good six kilometers, 630 meters of elevation gain, and an average gradient of around ten percent. The road winds through the forest in six hairpin bends to Tyrol's highest pilgrimage site at 1,636 meters. There's little traffic, as it's a toll road, and a fountain and refreshment options await at the top.
