The Hospital de la Reina, also known as the Hospital Real, is a historic hospital in Alhama de Granada, Andalusia. This hospital was founded in 1485 by the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, and was the first hospital in the Kingdom of Granada.
The hospital was built on the foundations of a former Islamic building and has two main construction phases. The first phase, between 1485 and 1510, involved the construction of a central patio with galleries supported by wooden pillars, which were later replaced by stone columns during a restoration in 1995. The second phase, around 1530, added a tall tower to the rear of the building, decorated with Renaissance arches and geometric motifs.
The Hospital de la Reina was originally used to care for wounded soldiers during the Reconquista and was later also used as a hospital for pilgrims and travelers. Today the building houses the Asociación Termalismo de Andalucía and the Centro de Exposición de Artesanal de Alhama de Granada.
