Hjelmkollen Fort sits in a commanding position above the Svinesund fjord, near the border with Sweden. Hjelmkollen Fortress is a Norwegian fort from the early 20th century, built between 1902 and 1903 to secure the border with Sweden and the mouth of the Iddefjord. After the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905, the fortress was demilitarized under the Karlstad Agreement. Today, the site is under the protection of the Norwegian Armed Forces and is a ventilated lookout point overlooking the old and new Svinesund Bridge.
