The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a memorial church built by the Bulgarian people in memory of the thousands of Russian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, Finnish, and Romanian soldiers who died in 1877-1878 during the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.
