On a ridge northeast of Lütjenburg - east of the Kossau - seventeen prehistoric burial mounds are known, of which only a few have survived.
The burial mound in front of us with a height of approx. 9 m and a diameter of 40 m is the largest in the Plön district. Burnt flint in the ejected earth of the animal structures indicate that this burial mound was built in the Neolithic Age (from approx. 3500 BC). In the following Bronze Age (from approx. 1700 BC) it can be assumed that the hill will expand. - Hill excavations in Schleswig-Holstein often show plow marks on the old surface, evidence of work in the fields before construction of the hill began.
In the Neolithic Age, burial chambers were built from boulders for the dead (see grave E), these megalithic graves were covered with earth. In the older Bronze Age, the dead were buried in tree or plank coffins on or next to the central large stone grave. These coffins were covered with a stone packing and covered with earth, often also with sod packing. The edge of such hills was mostly lined with stone circles. In the monuments that gradually emerged, urns were buried in the younger Bronze Age and the Iron Age (from approx. 500 BC) to the Migration Period (up to approx. 600 AD).
