Hohenzollern Castle first appeared in documents and writings in 1267. After the first castle was destroyed, a larger and well-fortified castle was built on the same spot in 1454. In the 18th century the fortress was abandoned and fell into ruins. In the 19th century, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia had the ancestral seat of his family rebuilt in its present form, larger and more beautiful than ever before. The castle is still privately owned today, but visitors can visit the castle.

The Hohenzollern Castle is about 300 meters above Hechingen on the summit of the 850 meter high Zollerberg. This castle is one of the most beautiful and well-known castles in Germany, which is especially noticeable on weekends and the many visitors. The castle is still privately owned, but can be visited daily from 10 clock. The entrance fees are between 5 and 12 euros. Of course there is also a restaurant and a beer garden. The castle also hosts regular events such as concerts, cinema and theater performances.

The climb is worthwhile and rewarded by the beautiful castle and the view. The castle and its surrounding grounds are open for tours. The castle complex opens at 11 a.m., and last admission is at 4:30 p.m. Further information about dining, admission prices, and much more can be found at
