The Brandenburg Gate can look back on around 200 years of history. Until 1989 it was a symbol for the division of Berlin and Germany, but today it is a national symbol for unity and thus one of the city's most famous landmarks. The Brandenburg Gate in Berlin is located on the Pariser Platz in the Dorotheenstadt in the district Mitte. It was built by Carl Gotthard Langhans in the years 1788-1791 at the direction of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II and is a well-known landmark and national symbol, with which many important events in the history of Berlin, Germany, Europe and the world of the 20. Century are connected. The building is assigned to the early Classicist style.

The Brandenburg Gate forms the conclusion of the boulevard Unter den Linden with the Pariser Platz. On the west side of the gate is the square of the 18th of March, on which begins the road of June 17, which crosses the Tiergarten.

The Brandenburg Gate marked the border between East and West Berlin and thus the border between the states of the Warsaw Pact and NATO. It was a symbol of the Cold War until German reunification and became the symbol of the reunification of Germany and Europe after 1990.
