It is here in Piazza Aldo Moro that the patron saint of the city of Gallipoli, Santa Cristina, is venerated. She, together with Sant’Agata and San Sebastiano, watches over the Pearl of the Ionian.

The devotion for the saint who freed the city from cholera is deeply felt and has led to the creation of a splendid chapel dedicated to her. It is close to the Ponte Antico that connects the new city to the historic center, the mainland to the island, right next to the Fontana Greca and the fishing boat docks.

It has a troubled past but has survived through the centuries, testimony to the devotion, especially by fishermen, to the saint and martyr.

The place is small, with a square plan, with a splendid statue of the saint inside, whose name means devotee of Christ.
