The Khanngarten, which the city of Geisenfeld now prefers to call the monastery garden, is part of the Benedictine monastery founded in 1030. When this was dissolved in 1803, part of the state secured itself, other parts of the entire complex passed to private owners. One of these was a wine and hop dealer named Khann, whose family owned the building wing along Klostergasse (now BRK day care) for over a hundred years. In 1930 the market town of Geisenfeld secured this ensemble, called the abbey floor.

And the garden? About half of this belonged to the adjacent complex, called Grafenstock, which initially remained in the possession of the Khann heirs. The other half belongs to the large monastery wing (used as a notarial archive) that is owned by the Free State. In the early 1990s, the city managed to lease both parts of the garden. An outbuilding that separated the two parts of the garden was demolished. When the city acquired the Grafenstock for € 380,000 in 2006, the associated part of the garden also passed into its possession.
