In this parking lot (and all others in the park) it is forbidden to leave food in the car. The reason: The bears know exactly how to break into cars - and they are very hungry and have little sensitivity when opening the doors. The picture was taken in this parking lot in the morning🐻.
The moral of this picture is very simple: Everything edible or with a strong smell (toothpaste) should be taken out of the car overnight and put into the bear-proof boxes that are at the edge of the parking lot.
Funny side note: A week later in Rocky Mountains National Park I received a note saying "Don't take any food into your tent, put everything in your car". When I asked, somewhat surprised, the rangers said that the bears in Colorado (at that time, the picture is from 2002) had not yet learned how to break into cars.
