Disused barges have been transformed into floating restaurants since 1900. A restaurant ship has been located here since 1950. The aging barge was replaced in 1970 by a HADAG ferry (1911) from Hamburg.

Since the beginning of the 20th century they have been moored on the banks of the Havel in the Grunewald: the Berlin "coffee barges".
Previously used as cargo barges, they were now used by Berliners for maritime recreation. After a few changes of location, one of them found its current berth at the entrance to the Stößensee in around 1950. Here, too, people sought distraction from the often difficult everyday life with coffee and cake or beer and grain.
The same applies then as now: a visit to the "Alte Liebe" is like a little vacation.
At the end of the 1960s, the aging, dilapidated barge had to be replaced. In the search for a successor, the then operator in Hamburg found the decommissioned "Godeffroy", which had already safely transported millions of passengers as a HADAG ferry and on harbor tours. The "Godeffroy", which celebrated its christening in the same year as the world-famous passenger ship "Titanic", became the restaurant ship "Alte Liebe" in 1970
