The old Bari-Taranto railway line was largely abandoned following the construction of a new line. Today, the tracks and structures (such as stations, toll booths, and bridges) along these sections are often abandoned, overgrown, or, in some cases, removed—see evidence here. However, there are plans to reclaim some sections and transform them into "green railways" or cycle paths.
