The beautiful oak is said to be about 500 years old and it is said that all of today's column oak trees originate in Central and Northern Europe. In column oaks the branches grow upwards and not horizontally. Today the beautiful oak stands in a small tree or shrub group. More information is available e.g. at Wikipedia.

In the new photos from March 2015, the beautiful oak in the middle of the grove can be seen better. You can see without leaves how the branches grow straight up.

About six hundred years ago a mutation occurred in this oak and the first columnar oak was created. All column oaks in Europe come from this tree (!). Meanwhile, age is also gnawing at this natural monument, but the tree is still alive.

This is the first column oak (pyramid oak) in Europe. Six hundred years ago this plant mutated and grew in this form. All (!) European column oaks come from this tree. Great!
