It is located at an altitude of 1013 meters, so the temperature here is cooler than in the city, a good reason to go up on a summer Sunday. This makes the views spectacular, on one side, the mountains of Granada and on the other the city with the Alhambra in the foreground.
On the north side of Cerro del Sol is the Santa Elena Castle or Silla del Moro. It is a small castle from the Nasrid period with military and strategic purposes. From here there was a complete panoramic view of the Alhambra and the Generalife, the city, the plain, the mountains, the Darro River, the Sacromonte and the Cerro de San Miguel. Above all, his function was to monitor the course of the Acequia Real, which supplied water to the Alhambra, the Generalife and the surrounding orchards.
