The Alto do Poio is crowned at 1,335 meters and represents the end of the agony for the pilgrims who come from previously doing the Alto do Cebreiro and the Alto de San Roque.
Here you will find a hostel and a hostel with bar service, so you can enjoy a reward by having a drink on one of its terraces and regaining strength before facing the descent.
The landscape, both going up and down, is unforgettable.

The climb to Alto do Cebreiro does not really end until you reach Alto do Poio. :-D Whenever I go to Galicia I pass through here, because the road and the views are spectacular. More at bigjoe.es/etapa-2-de-nuestro-camino-de-santiago-herrerias-sarria

And yes, this stopping place is the prelude to a short yet very challenging climb, an ascent that will test the resistance of any pilgrim. Once overcome, this difficulty, walkers will be situated at the highest peak on the French Way in Galicia. With its 1337 meters of altitude, from this place they will have superb views over the Sierra de O Rañadoiro and of the valley, at their feet, as well as, from behind, the top of San Roque, which the pilgrims passed previously. Care should be taken with the cold and snow, two disadvantages of winter.
