The present church was built around the middle of the 13th century and has always been nameless. To the east, the building ends with a box choir, whose distinctive feature is the triple window group from the time of construction. These are the oldest surviving church windows north of the Elbe. The oldest piece of the church's furnishings is the baptismal cup, made of Gotland limestone from the 14th century.
For almost five hundred years, candidates received the sacrament of baptism there until the early 19th century, when it was sold to a local innkeeper who used it as a watering hole for cattle.
The baptismal font was not returned to the church until 1931, when it was restored to its original purpose. It was restored in 1968 and given a modern base. Apart from the baptismal font, nothing of the medieval furnishings has survived, as the church was remodeled in the Gothic Revival style between 1866 and 1868, and also received its present pews and pulpit. The neo-Gothic altarpiece was removed during the 1967/68 renovation and replaced by a simple brick altar block, topped with a bronze meditation tablet by the sculptor Karl-Heinz Goedtke.
The church tower replaced a wooden bell tower in 1867/68.
