Down is great - as already mentioned, there are for some fit MTBler in each of the two muddiest places seen from above right over the "crest" alternatives. The second from above is a bit steeply back on the way - but should go.
Shortly after you come from above seen after the two "alternative routes" at a branch to the right, you can turn left onto an overgrown dirt road and then turn right onto a trail - beautiful liquid trail - you then come down to the intersection back to the original "Marched" way back again.
