The Vestrahorn Mountains, on the Stokksnes Peninsula, are one of the most photogenic sights in East Iceland. Their sharp peaks, over 450 meters high, are reflected in the black sand of the beach, creating a dramatic landscape that changes with every light of day. Access is easy via a track from the Ring Road, although windproof clothing is recommended because gusts are common along the coast. It's a perfect place to stop off your bike, walk along the beach, and enjoy one of the country's most iconic views, with dark mountains that seem to rise directly out of the sea.
