The Backhaus in Rethorn - a meeting place for everyone, not just on the baking days.
The bakery in Rethorn was first mentioned in the land register in 1842.
At that time it was still on the Spradau family farm in Kamern, which is about 1,200 meters as the crow flies to the north-east.
Bread was baked in it until 1940. Later it served as a workshop, slaughterhouse and laundry room.
When it became more and more dilapidated and also stood in the way of another agricultural building project, the Rethorn architect Otto Schröder acquired the bakery in 1980, dismantled it and stored the individual parts.
In 2002, the local association Rethorn e.V. took over the bakery with the support of the municipality of Ganderkesee and rebuilt it at its current location in around 1,800 working hours.
The old building structure was preserved as far as possible, some new components were added based on historical models.
In the vicinity of the square at the fire extinguishing pond there are some half-timbered and thatched houses that give this place a special ambience.
On the baking days, the house becomes a meeting place under the motto "baking and snacking".
