It is a model C fort of which only two were built. In front of the fort lies a wide inundation area and for cost reasons this fort only received one cannon in a lifting dome. This dome was located at the front and was directly connected to the main building via the postern. The function of the fort was to close off and defend the Jisperweg, which runs from the fort to the north.

The fort is now owned by Natuurmonumenten. The fort is located east of Fort bij Spijkerboor and west of Fort aan de Middenweg, also a model C fort.
