The double-winged graduation tower in Bad Staffelstein's spa park is a so-called "open-air inhalation facility." The atomization of the healing brine creates a health-promoting climate around the graduation towers. The aerosol contains the brine's minerals, which can be used for preventative or therapeutic purposes.

The graduation towers are available daily and free of charge in Bad Staffelstein's spa park from Easter until late autumn. The healing effects of the aerosol have been confirmed by several studies. This treatment is particularly suitable for the treatment of dermatological and asthmatic complaints. The graduation towers were constructed from local larch wood using traditional wooden construction methods. The blackthorn area measures 1,200 square meters, and the graduation towers are 55 meters long, 12.5 meters wide, and 11 meters high.

The original brine is distributed among the blackthorn branches below through evenly spaced recesses. It runs over the fine branches of the twigs and is thus atomized. Small droplets form in the air, forming aerosols. Approximately twelve cubic meters of brine are circulated every hour.

The water evaporates during the graduation process, but the salt remains. Thus, after a certain time, the brine in the graduation tower has a salt content of up to 25 percent – creating the aerosol that is so healing for respiratory diseases.
