The master brewer is employed by the city of Seßlach and is responsible for the so-called "Kommunbräu" (communal brewery).

His personal territory – the Kommunbrauhaus (Maximiliansplatz 105) at the lower end of Pfarrgasse – was built in 1892 and later renovated in 1960 and 1997/1988. It is one of the last breweries of its kind. Approximately 40 batches are brewed annually. Of these, around 40% go to the local inns Gasthof Reinwand and Landgasthof ROTER OCHSE Seßlach, and approximately 60% to private individuals.

In 1335, Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian elevated the small town to town status and granted it not only town and barrage rights, but also brewing rights "to finance other rights," according to the fortifications.
