Seruwawila Rajamaha Viharaya, also known as Seruwila Mangala Raja Maha Vihara, is an ancient Buddhist temple in the Trincomalee District of the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. This temple is one of the sixteen or seventeen holiest Buddhist shrines in Sri Lanka, known as Solosmasthana 1 2
The temple was built during the reign of King Kavantissa in the 2nd century BCE and is believed to house the sacred forehead bone relic of Lord Buddha 1 3
The site can be reached by both land and sea, with the sea route leading from Trincomalee to Muttur and then continuing by road 1 2
The temple complex includes several historical monuments such as the stupa,
which was restored in the 1920s, as well as
various ancient entrances, image houses
and other structures 2. The
Seruwawila complex was historically significant
and was known as Nagadeepa times.
