The Weeghuisje is a silent witness to the rich past of the hamlet of Viane.
This hamlet was first mentioned in 1360. A small harbour with a hamlet of ten houses and a chapel unfortunately belong to the past.

In the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, Viane was an important discharge point for agricultural products. The Coöperatieve Weegbrug association 'Onderling' in Viane (founded in 1890), had a weighbridge built with this accompanying weighing house. In it, the weighmaster could read the weight and print a weighing card.

During the flood disaster of 1953, the dike at the harbour collapsed and a wide tidal gap was created. Almost all houses disappeared. After the tidal gap was closed, the once flourishing activity of Viane was over.
From 1954 to 1985, a shipbreaking yard was located here with an accompanying ship museum. Due to the dike reinforcement, these buildings were also demolished in 2013. A new house appeared on the waterfront and together with the renovated Weeghuisjes you can see Viane 2.0.
