In late June 2018, the architect Jānis Lejnieks and the artist Leonards Laganovskis unveiled a decorative wall "Latvian cities and municipalities for the centenary of the state" as their present to our country at its very significant anniversary – centenary.

The wall was first painted in 2005, but since then a territorial administrative reform has taken place and many cities and municipalities have changed their administrative borders, therefore it was decided to renew the wall painting with current coats of arms.

The display of the municipal coats of arms is painted on a wall on the Square of Barricades. The location has not been chosen randomly. It is closely related to the events in 1991, when people were guarding the national government, communications and media institutions in order to prevent an armed coup against the restoration of independence of Latvia. The square is located on the outer edge of the Old Riga, near Bastejkalns, and its most visible facade is the Jacob's barracks building at Torņa iela 4.
