The fruit box was built in 1819 on the site of the former treasury of the Reichenbach monastery, after the imperial-royal town of Horb in the Austrian front became part of the Kingdom of Württemberg, which had been newly created by Napoleon. Before this, however, a treaty between the Grand Duchy of Baden and the Kingdom of Württemberg was required, as this Reichenbach property had passed into the possession of the Bishopric of Constance after the Reformation and now formed a Baden exclave on the Swabian Neckar as a result of Napoleon's land consolidation.
It was only through an exchange that the former monastery treasury became the property of the Kingdom of Württemberg. In the new fruit box, the royal chamber office stored the taxes that had since fallen to the now abolished monasteries, the dissolved canons' foundation and other institutions until the land charges were paid off. After that, the royal district command and a district office were housed in this stately building. The former fruit box was extensively renovated in the 1980s and has been home to the police station ever since.
