You cross the Lapenscharte if you want to reach the Kasseler Hütte from the Greizer Hütte. The paths to the saddle and then from the saddle to the Kasseler Hütte are technically very easy to master for the experienced mountaineer. You need to be in good physical condition in order to be able to leave the block stone terrain and the big round behind you - a good preparation if necessary for the next section of the Berliner Höhenweg the next day to the Edelhütte. On the other hand, this day does not offer such massive climbing and descent meters as the route from the Berliner to the Greizer Hütte.
The route from Lapenscharte to Greizer Hütte is very beautiful, more of a hiking trail almost to the gap. Only the last few meters of altitude are over gravel/boulders. On the other side, the route to the Kasseler Hütte is much more challenging.
