Valdichiana is a fertile Tuscan valley famous for its hilly landscapes, historic villages, fine wines, and Chianina, a prized breed of cattle. Also ideal for food and wine tourism. In particular, this photo depicts an area that has undergone a very important reclamation process in the past. The reclaimed lands in the Valdichiana, in fact, are the result of extensive hydraulic interventions that began already in the Etruscan and Roman era and continued during the Renaissance. These works were necessary to drain the swamps and make the valley fertile and cultivable, thus preventing diseases linked to water stagnation, such as malaria, and improving the agricultural and economic conditions of the region.
