A geodesic chimney or geodesic tower is an ancient building used to make geodetic measurements. A geodesic chimney is a tall hollow building, usually made of brick or stone. It is elongated in shape and often resembles a factory chimney. Sealed on the ground, in the center, is a geodesic terminal, made accessible from the outside through one or more openings at the bottom of the building. Geodesic chimneys were built in France in the late 19th century or early 20th century, mainly in the east and north of the country. At the time, the regions that were mainly mapped were the front zones. With the advent of satellites and satellite measurement, such points have been taken out of use.
