Natural Bridge is one of several natural arches in Bryce Canyon and is the only one that the average tourist sees while driving around the park road. It forms a beautiful backdrop at this vantage point. The Arch, carved from the reddest rock of the ferric Claron Formation, forms a stark contrast to the dark green Ponderosa Forest visible through the Arch's opening from the canyon below.

Such arches usually form after the erosion of the rock by rivers. However, the Natural Bridge emerged from a combination of processes. The expansion of the water as it froze caused cracks in the rock and weakened it. The chemical dissolution of the rock by rainwater removed the top and sides of this rock face. Eventually, gravity released the weakened pieces of rock in the center, creating the rock hole you see today. As the forces of erosion continue to gnaw at the arches and hoodoos of Bryce Canyon, the picture is constantly changing, and eventually the Natural Bridge will collapse. By the way, bridge is the wrong term from a scientific point of view, because it refers to rock structures that were created by hydropower. Arch would have been geologically correct, which is why a heated discussion broke out after the naming - unsuccessfully as you can see.
With its central location in Bryce Canyon, the Natural Bridge is one of the must-see stops.
