Asbyrgi Canyon, also known as the 'Hiding Place of the Gods', is a unique and breathtaking horseshoe-shaped gorge located in the north of Iceland. The gorge was formed thousands of years ago by a catastrophic glacial flood and is surrounded by steep cliffs that reach up to 100 meters high. The gorge is more than 1 kilometer wide and about 3.5 kilometers long. In addition, the bottom of the gorge is covered with vegetation and many tree species. Asbyrgi Canyon is part of the Vatnajökull National Park and is one of the best places on the Diamond Circle, a popular scenic route in the northern part of Iceland.

Only a maximum of 45 minutes' walk from the car park at the campsite. Very well signposted. A highlight when visibility is good!
