The Schwerter Forest is a large forest area between the cities of Schwerte and Dortmund. This area is located south of the Dortmund district of Aplerbeck and stretches along a ridge of the Ardey Mountains. It is not only a popular local recreation area, but also of great ecological importance.

Particularly noteworthy is the nature trail in the Schwerter Forest, which invites visitors to explore the forest with all their senses at 20 experience stations. Here, nature lovers can get to know the local flora and fauna and learn more about the importance of the forest for the ecosystem. The highlights of the forest include small stream valleys, the Blue Lake, a former quarry, and a small reservoir in the upper reaches of the Gehrenbach.

Another interesting destination in the Schwerter Forest is the Schwerter Orchid Farm, which is located right next to the forest. This nursery cultivates over 100,000 orchids in various forms and hybrids on an area of 3,000 square meters and is a magnet for plant lovers.
