Red Cross, Former forest village
Today, it is actually the site of the former village, which ceased to exist at the crack of dawn on June 23, 1944. In retaliation for helping the partisans, the Germans, supported by the Ukrainians, pacified it. The inhabitants were put into cars and taken to prisons and concentration camps. The village was burned. Her tragic fate was commemorated many years later.
A monument was erected on the high shore of the Krzyżanska Bay (south-eastern bay of Lake Wigry). The monument is unusual - it presents a high cross, several meters high, surrounded by authentic elements of equipment for cottages and rural farms attached to seven thick tree stumps. Among everyday objects we can see quarry stones saved from the fire, sickles, scythes, horseshoes, chains... all this is truly impressive.

Next to the monument there is a parking lot where you can stop by car and admire the beauty of the surrounding place. The parking lot is open from dawn to dusk. Parking guests are obliged to enter the park.
