A large, old church tower with its feet almost in the water of the Oosterschelde. The village Koudekerke was located on the outside of the dike between 1550 and 1600. The houses were demolished and because a church without people is no longer useful, the church met the same fate. Only the church tower – the Plompe Toren – remained standing as a beacon for the busy shipping traffic on the Oosterschelde. Now the tower serves as a beautiful viewpoint over the Oosterschelde nature park.

The Plompe Toren is a historic, late Gothic tower near Burgh-Haamstede on Schouwen-Duiveland, Zeeland. It is the last remnant of the former village of Koudekerke, which sank into the sea in the Middle Ages due to storm surges. The 23-metre-high tower offers visitors a viewing platform with a magnificent view over the Oosterschelde and the surrounding nature. Today it serves as an information centre that provides information about the history of the region, the legend of the 'Lady of Westenschouwen' and nature and coastal protection.
