Directly at the border is a memorial to the two famous Auschwitz escapees, Alfred Wetzler and Rudolf Vrba, who tried in vain to warn of the impending extermination of Hungarian Jews in April 1944. At this point, after days of fleeing, they crossed the border into their Slovak homeland.
