Where the Dutch probably outdo every country in the world is in bicycle infrastructure!

Such an impressive bridge is being built "only" for pedestrians & cyclists. It's just a nice driving experience when you pass this bridge!

The Pieter Smit Bridge is a real eye-catcher in the landscape. The bridge forms a direct connection between Winschoten and Blauwestad for cyclists and pedestrians. This allows residents of the Blauwestad area to easily and quickly reach the facilities in Winschoten, such as schools and shops. And conversely, the recreational facilities around the Oldambtmeer are also quickly accessible from Winschoten. When it opens in early 2021, the Pieter Smit Bridge will be the longest pedestrian and cycle bridge in Europe.
