The Church of Santa Maria al Monte has something special, both for its position, in fact it is perched on the slopes of Mount Epomeo about 500 meters above the sea, and for the tradition of faith which is renewed every year.

The Church of Santa Maria al Monte was built in 1593 next to a small hermitage, along Via Bocca, by the Sportiello brothers. The church was then abandoned and used as a warehouse by local farmers until a former monk of San Nicola sull'Epomeo restored the cult, renovating the church and equipping it with works and furnishings.

Since then, every 12 September, a pilgrimage takes place not only for devotees but also for many young people who carry on the tradition. On the occasion of Santa Maria, in fact, thousands of people gather for the Holy Mass and the procession and for a collective celebration which sees banquets arranged throughout the churchyard and many Ischia delicacies to be enjoyed together.
