The former route of the Tettautal Railway can still be seen in many places in the Tettaugrund. Excerpt from frankenwaldbahn.de.tl/Tettautalbahn.htm: "Construction work began in May 1902, so that the line was opened on June 23, 1903. Operations began with three daily pairs of trains, initially as mixed Trains ran. Since freight traffic was developing well, the passenger trains were separated from the freight trains a little later. However, on May 28, 1952 at midnight, the GDR closed the sections of the route in its territory. The West German locomotive and wagon material were still able to do so in time to Pressig-Rothenkirchen. Since the railway line was no longer passable between Welitsch and Schauberg, the DB now supplied the industrial companies in the Tettauer Winkel using Culemeyer transports. Several plans to build a bypass railway between Welitsch and Schauberg failed because the costs were too high ."

The route is barely recognizable today. Nevertheless, it is an impressive engineering feat, as the Tettau Valley is swampy in many places. I can still remember the time as a child in the 1960s, when the tracks near Schauberg were already overgrown with spruce trees. And the gigantic Culemeyer transports on what is now the Frankenwald Hochstraße between Tettau and Steinbach/Wald.
