Altenwied Castle is a small spur castle in the municipality of Neustadt (Wied). In 2003, the Windhagen entrepreneur Jürgen Wirtgen bought the castle and the surrounding forest area from Carl Fürst zu Wied (1961-2015). Wirtgen had the building restored in close cooperation with the State Monument Preservation Office and a villa erected in place of the medieval residential buildings, the color of which picks up on the stylistic elements and building materials of the historic complex. The result is a striking complex that can be seen from afar and is not open to the public. Source: Wikipedia
