The Breakers is perhaps the most famous of the many historic mansions in Newport, Rhode Island. Constructed between 1893 and 1895 for Cornelius Vanderbilt II, the mansion epitomizes the grandeur and opulence of the Gilded Age. Its limestone facade, adorned with intricate carvings and balconies, overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, while the interior boasts luxurious rooms adorned with marble, gilt, and rare woods. The surrounding 13-acre estate features manicured gardens, fountains, and pathways, enhancing the mansion's picturesque setting. Originally owned by the Vanderbilt family, The Breakers was opened to the public in the mid-20th century and is now managed by the Preservation Society of Newport County. It serves as a popular tourist attraction, offering guided tours that provide insight into its rich history and the lavish lifestyle of America's wealthiest families during the Gilded Age.
