The trail that retraces Charles Darwin's route in Maricá at the time is around two hours long (round trip) and divides the district of Itaipuaçu and the neighborhood of Engenho do Mato, in Niterói.
The entire route takes place within the Serra da Tiririca State Park (PESET) and is part of the Caminhos de Maricá Ecological Circuit, an initiative by the Sustainable City Secretariat, which promotes guided walks through the municipality.
The original trail panel was opened in 2008 and was attended by Randal Keynes, great-great-grandson of Charles Darwin.
