The UNESCO Global Geopark Batur includes two volcanic calderas that were formed by two volcanic eruptions 29,000 and 20,000 years ago. The active Gunung Batur (1,717 m) in the center of the calderas formed later.
In 2012, UNESCO added the region to the Global Geoparks Network list.
Geosite Tumuli Toya Bungkah is located in the Batur Global Geopark. The site is one of ten geosites in the park with information boards about the natural phenomena of the Batur Caldera.
