Thanks to a manual by the notary Miquel Recasens that is preserved in the Historical Archive of Girona, we have been able to learn that on January 17, 1641 in the chapel of Sant Sebastià -called "university"-, the residents of Capmany gathered to to choose the municipal positions of that year: the chief consul, the second consul, the councillors, the estimators and the mostassaf (person in charge of officially comparing the weights and measures and ensuring the good quality of the groceries). On the steps in front of the chapel, men have always gathered there on summer evenings to drink refreshments and chat. The director of the Germanor choir, Mn. Francesc Berga, dedicated a sardana to them, El Cafè dels Murris.
