Djúpavík is a strange place. This tiny town was gradually emptied of its inhabitants. However, it was very prosperous during the 20th century. More than 300 people worked here in the disused factory which you cannot fail to see as the building takes up so much space. This herring processing factory saw its activity decline until it came to a complete halt. It is following the opening of a hotel that the village is now raising its head. You can go on very beautiful hikes in the surrounding area.
