The center of the village is the church of St. Nikolai. Inside it impresses with the richly decorated altar, the pews with the carved figures, a confessional box rare for Protestant churches and the ceiling painted with stars, which is reminiscent of a ship's hull. Heinrich Sengelmann, the founder of the Alsterdorf institutions, is buried in the church cemetery. As a pastor in Moorfleet, he opened an innovative school for poor children as early as 1850. The community center is located in a historic half-timbered house with a gigantic thatched roof barn.
