Sculpture by Hans Jürgen Zimmermann from 1996. The sculpture is based on a design for the stage set of the ballet "Undine" from 1994 in the Hanover Opera. Undine is a female water spirit. The name is derived from the Latin word "Unda", which means "wave".
The stainless steel sculpture by Hans Jürgen Zimmermann from Hanover is one of the artist's preliminary designs for the stage sets for the ballet version of "Undine" in the Hanover Opera. The author of Undine, Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, was stationed in 1796 as an officer near Bückeburg. It is therefore considered certain that the story of the mermaid took place on the Steinhuder Meer. The sculpture was erected by the Steinhuder Meer e.V. tourist association in 1996.
