The Middle Fork of the South Platte River begins near Alma, going through Fairplay and towards the town of Hartsel. The fish here are classic of the Colorado trout stream, which is made up of riffles, runs, pools, and pockets for trout to hide in. It is a popular river for fly fishing, but the Middle Fork South Platte River can freeze in the winter.
