This wide and open river valley is under special protection as the “Lahntal between Marburg and Gießen” bird sanctuary. The life element “water” of the Lahn, which is very close to nature, shapes this landscape with intensive agriculture and few trees. Interspersed are oxbow remains, reedbeds, reeds, ponds, ponds and ditches, which provide habitat for a variety of breeding and migratory birds.
The cycle path described here deliberately does not lead into the middle of the nature reserve, but only to biotopes that are particularly worthy of protection, so as not to disturb the sensitive flora and fauna. However, it is advisable to occasionally park your bike and use the designated footpaths and paths. Some of these lead directly to the Lahn.
The Natura Trail is the responsibility of NaturFreunde Marburg and was designed by Andreas Kunz, Rolf Küpper and Gerhard Pfaff.
