Located directly on the river Anger and embedded in an old English landscape park is one of the oldest preserved industrial plants in Germany: the Cromford cotton spinning mill in Ratingen. Founded in 1783/84 by the Wuppertal businessman and entrepreneur Johann Gottfried Brügelmann, it is today the first fully mechanical cotton spinning mill on the European continent.

The early industrial complex from the late 18th century has been almost completely preserved: the five-story "High Factory" and the late-baroque Cromford manor house - today both buildings of the LVR industrial museum, the "Old Factory", the simple workers' apartments, the office and the wheel house, that once housed the water wheel.

The Cromford textile factory in Ratingen in the Rhineland was founded in 1783 by Johann Gottfried Brügelmann and was the first factory on the European mainland. Today a branch of the LVR industrial museum is located here.

A visit to the Textile Museum is worthwhile. The big clock on the roof with a bell ran at different speeds depending on the working time or break time. Industrialization was also the beginning of labor exploitation 😉
