The Dog Bar, or Gloucester, Breakwater is a large stone dike that protects Gloucester Harbor from the rough Atlantic Seas. You can walk on the Breakwater from Eastern Point Lighthouse to the end where Dog Bar Lighthouse sits and get unobstructed, panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Gloucester seaport, and East Point, the entire way. This is a unique walk and must-do if in the area. While the Breakwater is generally flat, it is not necessarily an easy, or risk-free walk; the granite slabs have gaps between them and they can be slippery from the seawater and algae. Please also check the tides and local weather conditions; people have been washed off the Breakwater during high tides and inclement weather!
